Not sure if you mentioned this in the podcast (because I am to lazy to hear it right now) but Robert Woodhead (aka Head Honcho at AnimEigo) made a cameo in this movie, according to Wikipedia. I would assume because Wizardry at the time was a huge hit in the home market.
There are already many threads exploring, in exhaustive and testy detail, CDX's (or at least many of the contributors') antipathy towards BW. The short answer: not my cup of tea.
Oi!

This is the video I was talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykZkAp2Z3qo
...is the name of the "laser mounted in a B-1" project. At last report they had managed to get the laser to work at the power level required, but so far they haven't actually shot it at anything or put it in an aircraft.
PS that flying sphere-thing that Val Kilmer plays with in the beginning of the movie is a real thing, now, as well: http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2011-10/video-japans-new-ball-shaped-drone-wows-crowds-tokyo
I don't know if I really got across the fact that the jargon in this movie is actually real stuff, not just made up science-y word salad. I mean, the actors obviously didn't know what any of it meant, but whoever wrote the stuff did. (And good job on them for actually getting it into the movie, as opposed to someone saying "all this is boring and confusing, cut it out so we can have more jokes!")
Very cool! They had a lot of interesting variations of US figures with the Action Force line in the UK with Red Laser being one of the coolest "foreign" figure ever made!
Great to hear your perspective of the UK version of GI Joe toys!
Thanks!
LF
Wow, this was one of the earliest action figure-type toys I ever owned, alongside various Stars Wars figures - really brings back the memories!
In the UK, G.I. Joe figures were licenced by Palitoy and rebranded as "Action Force" (they were known by that name for many years), as an offshoot of the popular "Action Man" line (again, rebranded 12" G.I. Joe). The UK FLAK cannon was released as part of a very early wave (before there was more emphasis on "characters" like Scarlett and Snake-Eyes) as part of "Z-Force"; it was bright green in colour with a black barrel. I also remember those tripod legs being a real pain!
Why the hate on Beast Wars? Don't tell me you're one of those TRUKK NOT MUNKY people...
Man, Exo-Squad was friggin' awesome. That said: I only had ONE figure. I'm sad I never got completely into that toyline. On top of that, it's overall sad that another mech-based toyline has never taken hold since...
The colors on this thing are terribly garish and nasty.
I need one now.
It's worth noting that the suit design was taken from one of the first ExoSquad suits, which was non-transforming. It's actually pretty impressive how well they integrated the bike feature with the overall form of the original suit.
You can see the non-transforming version here: http://www.bamkapow.com/post.phtml?pk=2857
The Exo-Fighter shown there was designed by Parasites and Micronauts Alien designer Stephen Lee and is one of my favorites.
Exosquad was an Event in american toy history. What kid could not have fun with Marsala's E-frame?
A space menace was never so... gaudy.
I do quite enjoy what they're doing with this line; can't wait to see more.
Thanks for the compliments!
And yes , pervert woody never gets old! I will probably be an old, senile man and get a kick out of pervert woody!
Great golden goodness...
I loved this review, pics were great, info was solid but not dry. The pics at the end were classic too, and Creepy Woody is always funny to me.
It looks decent. Light up eyes look possible. I was hoping to see an ES Gokin version.
Excellent review, sir! Also, I almost died from the last picture.
The moment where Josh reminds Atom that the Green Lion and Pidge are coming out next and he can review them. The look on Atom's face made me laugh out loud. Spot on commentary from both of you guys about Matty. I can safely say Club Lion Force will be my first and last subscription ever. When I think of the different Super Robot Chogokin that have come out and the Monsterarts stuff, that's when I really feel the pain. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I am so very glad to hear that Adam's finally given up on being optimistic and hopeful about the Mattel Vol-well, everything. :>
Adam, I would like answer your question, about why the next entry in the Saint Cloth Myth Crown line is going to be Poseidon, with another question. Why would Bandai create a new Appendix line of fixed posed statues and have the figure that kick starts the line be Lizard Misty? Retailers are still trying to get rid of their Saint Cloth Myth Lizard Misty stock because he was such a insignificant character. So as we all know, Bandai works in mysterious and sometimes ass-backwards ways.
Oh and also, Bandai said a while ago that this was the direction they were heading with the Saint Cloth Myth Crown line. They said they were going to do the bronze saints wearing their corresponding Gold Cloths and the Gods. Which just could very well mean that Athena will one day grace the Saint Cloth Myth Crown line. Poseidon is the first God Cloth that was released, so maybe they are doing the Gods in the Same order as the regular line.
I'm glad I am not a Voltron fan so I don't have to go through the agony of collecting these Matty exclusive sets and then having to rant about how poor they are. Yes, I'd like a Classic or Masterpiece version, but that's as far as I can go for my interest in it right now.
But then I realized that no, this is most definitely Adam loosing the full power of his mind.
CLASSIC! Atom destroys Matty collector like Godzilla crushes Japanese fishing villages! I just had a thought. What if Matty is sending you crappy stuff on purpose just to screw with you? Naw, they just epically suck! You are the man Atom. Best show ever.
I ain't writing anything.
Nope.
